Saying Goodbye to the 2024-25 Season

Saying Goodbye to the 2024-25 Season

Sharon Humphries25 Jun - 20:30

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

“Let each ending empower you to chase the horizon of new dreams.”

Sunday started the week in which we celebrate our all our players, and we kicked off with the U13s-U17s Boys Club Presentations.

Some people question why we have them as the players just get bored and I guess that is true, but is this because they do not truly understand the importance and purpose of the Club presentations?

First, it is a celebration of each and everyone of them for their commitment to their team. Turning up in all weathers to play a game they all love, together.

In our impersonal interactive world where we often communicate with AI bots rather than people, where kids play computer games with someone online they will never meet, it’s refreshing to see a group of lads with real camaraderie, laughing and joking about missed goals, fluffed shots and comedic falls. As well as eulogising about the perfect header or the corner kick that was saved by the keepers finger tips.

Then to see the pride in their faces when the Manager speaks about their achievements and gives them recognition for their efforts. It’s not all about the top goal scorer, although that is satisfying to know but when they realise he has noticed all the things they do from fearless defending, to increasingly accurate passing , to dribbling past defenders and unselfishly passing to a team mate, making that hard and fierce tackle to defend the back line or simply reading the game and of course congratulating that amazing goal from the halfway line that defied all the odds.

Next it is a nod to the parents themselves who pay the fees, ferry the boys around and standout in all weathers from extreme heat to frozen feet. Often putting up nets or running the line or just taking photos for our website. Proudly cheering on their children. It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated so it’s also a thank you to the parents from the Coach and the Club to say we notice and we care and we are incredibly proud of the loyalty and sense of community these evening bring.

With the English FA releasing a 131-page report on the social and economic value of grassroots football last year, it only underlined how crucial the system is for a host of different reasons.

"The FA’s report announced that across the whole of England 13.5million people play football on a regular basis and the improvements in both physical and mental well-being are nothing short of staggering. Along with it being stated that there are 66,500 cases where participation in grassroots football has helped the reduction of depression and anxiety among children, this number only skyrockets for adults.

Only cementing why grassroots football is so crucial to both the national sport and the physical benefits that it offers, the FA’s report also announced that there are 203,300 cases among adults who have reported a reduction in mental and health disorders. With over 1.4million spending their hard-earned time volunteering in the system each week, it is extremely hard to argue that grassroots football is not the lifeblood of our historic game".

On Saturday we will be celebrating the U13 to U16 Girls and their fabulous achievements ending with our final presentations on Sunday for the Wildcats, U7 to U12s girls and mixed teams some of whom are just beginning their journey with us and some that have been with us since they were 4 as part of our development school or wildcats programmes.

We are looking forward to the next set of presentation and photos of all of them will be on our FB page on Monday. When we will be asking the questions

Could we improve on our presentations? If so how?

We need your feedback on what more we can do and the Club survey is still live I believe so if anyone wants to see some changes please respond. All the responses are anonymous but equally if you want to email us with specific request we are here to listen and take action.

Enjoy the summer break but don't forget to check our news stories we will keep them going so send us any stories or images of summer camps, tournaments or friendlies and keep us up to date on what you are doing.
